When it comes to low-priced headphones, more often than not, you get what you pay for. Cheap plastic. Too-firm, or not firm enough earcups. Lack of features. You name it, budget gaming headsets are generally not worth it. However, with its made-for Xbox designation, when I had the chance to try out the LucidSound LS10X Wired Gaming Headset, I was intrigued.
After unboxing the headset and holding it in my hands, I was hopeful that this wasn’t going to be another run-of-the-mill budget gaming headset. Despite its modest price, it certainly didn’t feel like a cheap headset. It’s a wired headset, but it has some premium features, like 50mm drivers, memory foam ear cushions, and a dual-mic system. But how does the LucidSound LS10X gaming headset actually stack up with its features?
Design and Comfort
The LucidSound LS10X gaming headset is well-built and looks great. The lightweight frame is sturdy and doesn’t over-flex like cheaper headsets. The earcups are large and lined with soft memory foam that’s comfortable for long gaming sessions. The headband is also padded with memory foam and doesn’t put any undue pressure on my head, even after hours of gaming.
The earcups are large enough to fit over my ears without putting too much pressure on them. It doesn’t fit as snug as some other gaming headsets, but it doesn’t need to. The headset is still tight enough that it doesn’t move around much when I’m gaming.
Audio Quality
The LucidSound LS10X gaming headset has 50mm drivers, which is pretty standard for gaming headsets. The sound quality is good, with clear highs and mids. The bass isn’t as punchy as some other gaming headsets out there, but it’s still decent. The sound isolation is also good, blocking out most background noise so I can focus on my game. Don’t expect to completely silence the ambient sounds around you though. This isn’t a noise-canceling headset.
Volume is controlled by a wheel dial on the outside of the earcups. Spin the dial to turn the volume up or down, and push in on it to mute the mic. On that note…
Dual-Mic System
The LucidSound LS10X gaming headset comes with a dual-mic system that includes a boom mic and an inline mic. Both mics are adjustable, so you can position them exactly where you need them.
I found that the boom mic picked up my voice well, even with background noise. My teammates had no trouble hearing me, even when there was a lot going on in the game. The inline mic is also good, but it’s not as clear as the boom mic. It’s still usable though, and it’s nice to have the option of using either one.
The Verdict
Overall, I was impressed with the LucidSound LS10X gaming headset. It’s well-built, comfortable, and sounds great. But that makes sense, considering the headset is officially licensed for use on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One, as well as PC.
Design-wise, the LS10X is a lot more subdued than other gaming headsets out there. It doesn’t have any RGB lighting or obnoxious branding. The volume-controlled earcups are relatively plain, with a simple LucidSound logo on each side. This might not be to everyone’s taste, but it certainly works as a more understated piece of gaming gear.
If you’re looking for a budget gaming headset, the LucidSound LS10X is a great choice that offers great sound quality and comfort while going easy on your wallet.
