Ark: Survival Evolved may have the market cornered when it comes to dinosaurs and the survival genre, but Goner looks poised to take it to the next level while adding a horror element on top of it all.
Goner – from indie game development studio, Loco Players – officially hit its Kickstarter campaign goal last month. Actually, to be precise, it absolutely crushed its funding goal, bringing in $36,000 dollars, which is 124% of the intended goal. What’s even more impressive is that Goner is the Spain-based studio’s first commercial title.
Goner is a first-person survival horror game that is slated for a 2021 release on Steam. The story will feature playable character, Anthony Sunder, as he searches for his mother and her expedition crew on an island inhabited by hostile members of a lost civilization while keeping his wits about him as he survives against the various species of dinosaurs that roam the island.
Not only will players have to survive against (and likely kill) gigantic dinosaurs, they’ll also be using their bones, skin, and other body parts for surviving on the island. This includes, but won’t be limited to things like food, weapons, armor, and other tools. Survival management will play a key role in how long you’re able to last, with two modes – Survival and Story – being available in the game. Goner gives off a very The Forest type of vibe with its hostile island inhabitants and overall unsettling nature, but with the added threat of flesh-feasting dinosaurs and environmental hazards.
In response to the success of the Kickstarter campaign, Yeray Schwartz, CEO at Loco Players, stated, “We are very proud to have exceeded every expectation about the success of Goner on Kickstarter. We are excited to launch this awaited adventure in the first half of next year.”
Although the Kickstarter campaign has ended, interested players can follow along with development updates as the 2021 release date approaches. Until then, be sure to check out the teaser trailer for the game above, as well as the recently released gameplay teaser on the game’s YouTube page.
