Truth be told, the EPOS Audio GTW 270 Hybrid True Wireless Closed Gaming Earbuds might be my favorite gaming headset to use while playing. The design is sleek and modern, and once placed in my earholes, I almost always forget that I am wearing them. The sound quality is excellent, and the bass sounds especially great when playing games, whether I’m quarterbacking my team to glory in Madden, pounding the pavement and listening for enemy movement in a first-person shooter, or reveling in the chaos (and incredible soundtrack) of Rocket League.

They also come with a handy, expensive-looking carrying case that doubles as a charging dock, so you can charge your earbuds without having to worry about connecting multiple cables. What’s most impressive, though, is the 270’s plug-and-play dongle that does away with the need to pair the earbuds with a Bluetooth device every time you want to play. Simply plug the dongle into your PC or console’s USB port, and it works as soon as you turn on your device, which, for me, was primarily my PS5 while testing these out.

New and improved

I’ve actually reviewed these earbuds before, but EPOS Audio recently relaunched the earbuds with a newer model which has some slight upgrades over the original. Most notably, the biggest change is that the microphone can now be used while connected to the low-latency USB-C dongle, giving you a lot more flexibility for how you chat while gaming. Whereas the original version of the earbuds required some hefty workarounds for chatting while gaming, the 270’s elevate its microphone performance.

In addition — and what was honestly my largest qualm with the original earbuds — the 270’s now reduce the amount of audible noise floor when sound is playing. This is huge for me, as I didn’t really care for the amount of ambient noise that would make its way into my ears, even when the earbuds were at a decent volume. It helps to keep me even more immersed in whatever game I am playing.

Let’s take a look at the rest of what already makes these earbuds so great.

Noise-isolating silicone ear tips

In addition to its closed-back design, the GTW 270 Hybrid also comes with custom-designed ear tips that further isolate noise. These ear tips (of which there are three sizes available) are made from soft silicone and conform to the shape of your ear for a snug, comfortable fit.

Dual microphone design for acoustic clarity

The GTW 270 Hybrid’s dual microphone design ensures clear communication between you and your teammates. One microphone picks up your voice while the other one cancels out background noise. This way, your teammates will always be able to hear you loud and clear — even if there’s a lot of commotion in the background.

Single-button controlled

The GTW 270 Hybrid has a single button that controls both playback and phone functions. This means you can easily adjust volume, make calls, and manage your music without ever having to take your hands off of your controller for an extended amount of time. And because this button is located on the earpiece, it’s always easily within reach.

The verdict

The GTW 270 Hybrid earbuds are not your average pair of earbuds. These Bluetooth/USB-C dongle-enabled earbuds were created specifically for gaming, giving you the edge you need to come out on top. Whether you’re playing your favorite first-person shooter or engaging in a marathon gaming session, these earbuds will help you stay focused and perform at your best.
