*Updated January 14, 2022: The release date of Core Disruption has been delayed. The new launch date is TBD, but the team is shooting for sometime around May 2022.
If you were lucky enough to get a brand spankin’ new Oculus Quest 2 over the holidays, there’s never been a better time to hop into VR. Games like the widely successful Demeo and so many other high-quality VR games are available to play right now. Developer MPLEX will soon be adding to your backlog with its upcoming title Core Disruption – a multiplayer VR tank combat game that is slated to launch on Oculus and Steam Early Access on January 17, 2022.
Core Disruption’s “core” focus (see what I did there?) is on its innovative technology that reduces the onset of simulation sickness – something that VR headsets are all too guilty of for many users.
The game will launch as a single-player and multiplayer “cross-play, team-centric, competitive multiplayer experience” that will allow new users to VR play with ease, offering up traditional keyboard/mouse controls instead of VR headset-specific controllers.
You’ll take on the role of a pilot in a futuristic approach to tank pilotry, as you simultaneously move your tank, shoot at enemies, and manage your systems on the battlefield – all while protecting your own core. The game will feature high-fidelity graphics, immersive soundscapes and environments, as well as a deep player progression system allowing you to customize your vehicle with over 9,000 different configurations.
Galen Stetsyuk, CEO of MPLEX, had this to say about the studio’s excitement surrounding Core Disruption and its release:
“We developed Core Disruption to reduce as many barriers to VR as possible, and currently, one of the biggest barriers is simulation sickness. With the game’s modern features, we plan on creating a passionate VR community that can finally enjoy a high-quality, multiplayer experience that is immersive, sustainable, and accessible.”
It’s great to see studios like MPLEX, Resolution Games, and others focus on VR’s accessibility and improving the overall user experience. There’s never been a better time to embrace virtual reality. 2022 is sure to be a banner year for the immersive genre.
Core Disruption is now available to be added to your wishlist on Steam. The developer also invites interested players to join its Discord server as the team would love to have interested players join the community.
