While there’s no shortage of survival horror games available for PC, there’s plenty of lesser titles that you may need to wade through to find the diamonds in the rough. I’m here to tell you that Mist Survival, developed by Dimension 32 Entertainment, is one of the must-play titles for fans of the genre.
Similar to the last game featured in our 31 Days of Halloween series, Mist Survival is the passion project of sole developer, Rati Wattanakornprasit. But for what it’s worth, as robust and dynamic as the game is you’d never know that the game was the work of a single person.
Mist Survival puts players in the role of a lone survivor who finds themselves stranded in the forest during a world-wide pandemic in which a virus has turned most of the population into ravenous, flesh-devouring monsters. Players will be tasked with maintaining their health and well-being while searching for weapons, supplies, and shelter – the latter of which might be the most important components of the game.
You see, although the threat of bandits exists in Mist Survival’s open world, the real threat lies in the mysterious fog that randomly rolls in (often at the most inopportune times). Fog is one thing, but it’s what comes with the fog that players should fear. Hordes of zombies lurk within the mist, ready to devour any living humans in their path. Finding shelter allows players to have a slight edge on surviving until the mist rolls along, with an emphasis on base building being a major driving factor in being successful. Players can develop their bases into major, barricaded compounds with food and water sources, as well as recruit other survivors to join and help maintain its operations. This is especially helpful when zombies and bandits attack, since more allies mean a higher success rate for defending the base.
The game has been in Steam Early Access for over two years, but speaking as someone who has had the chance to check out the game’s early builds, I can confirm that it’s already an incredibly fun and immersive game that will keep you on the edge of your seat with the hairs on your neck standing straight up during the game’s more intense moments.
Mist Survival seems to have a solid grasp on exactly the type of game its trying to be, and should definitely be on your radar if you are a fan of survival horror.
