Spooky season is officially underway, with Bloober Team sharing a new teaser trailer for Layers of Fear using Unreal Engine 5.
The first Layers of Fear, released in 2016, was praised for its bold new take on the psychological horror experience. This title successfully created its own direction for both Bloober Team and the psychological horror genre as a whole, with its DLC release continuing to build upon the success of the franchise. The series’ most recent release – the Nintendo Switch-exclusive Layers of Fear: Legacy – currently sits as the franchise’s best rated title.
The new trailer brings us back to the canvas, and while it doesn’t show off too much, it’s clear that we will be descending further into madness with the Bloober Team’s currently untitled next project.
“Layers of Fear was a breakthrough project for us—it paved the path for Bloober Team and began our rapid growth, allowing us to explore more stories we’ve wanted to tell,” said Piotr Babiebo, Bloober Team CEO, in a press release. “I’m really glad we’re coming back to this world, wiser and more experienced. For me, it’s important that we make this announcement during the Tokyo Games Show, as for many of us Japan is the cradle of psychological horror games. As a studio, we also have two other projects in the works, one in production and one in pre-production.”
With the two aforementioned “other projects” being considered as AAA releases, it’s clear that Bloober Team is a studio to keep an eye on in the next few years.
