Indie game publisher Blowfish Studios and developer Sky Machine have teamed up to create a new stealth sandbox action-adventure video game called, Winter Ember, which is expected to launch next year.
Prior to its release, however, a graphic novel series of the same name launched today with Winter Ember: Chapter 0, “The Broken Rises”. The series will act as a prequel, providing readers with a little background on the events leading up to the video game that takes place in the Victorian Age and follows the story of Arthur Artorias – a carefree and privileged noble who eventually sees his world turned upside down and winds up on a long journey for revenge.
The prequel comes to us from an all-star writer/illustrator team in partnership with manga publisher eigoManga. Winter Ember is written by Kevin Grevioux, known for creating the Underworld and I-Frankenstein film franchises, along with his work in comics including Amazing Spider-Man, Cyborg, and Young Avengers. Chris Awayan is the illustrator for the series – known for his work on the Indestructible comic series – with Ben Herrera (Batman: Arkham Knights, Marvel Adventures, X-Men Adventures) handling the cover art.
“Kevin’s dark and brutal stories combined with Chris’ stylish illustrations are the perfect combination to set the tone for Winter Ember for its release next year,” exclaimed Ben Lee, CEO, Blowfish Studios. “With the release of each issue, we are just that much closer to the game’s full launch. Please look forward to what we have in store!”
Winter Ember: Chapter 0 is available for digital download now via Amazon Kindle, GlobalComix, Graphite Comics, and Comic Distro, with more issues being released monthly. A physical release of the graphic novel is slated for April 25, 2022, leading up to Winter Ember’s 2022 release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC via Steam.
